Press Release: VDMA Power Transmission Engineering elects new board of directors and sees growth in industry turnover

• Sales growth in 2021: increased to 12 percent

• Material bottlenecks and shortage of skilled workers increasingly causing problems for companies

• Forecast 2022: 5 percent increase in sales

Frankfurt, 20 September 2021 – The member companies of VDMA Power Transmission Engineering have elected a new board of directors, comprising a total of 18 members, on the occasion of the general meeting at the VDMA headquarters in Frankfurt.

In the subsequent constituent meeting of the board, Bernd Neugart, Neugart GmbH, Kippenheim, was elected as the new chairman and Dr. Stefan Spindler, Schaeffler Technologies AG & Co, KG; Herzogenaurach, as vice chairman.

"We look forward to continuing the successful cooperation on the board in the service of power transmission engineering and thank Wilhelm Rehm for his successful 7 years as chairman in this honorary position. We greatly appreciate the fact that he will continue to be involved in the board of the association in the future. During Mr. Rehm's era, the association was able to achieve a new record level of membership (213) and the industry was positioned as a leader in all important transformation topics," says Hartmut Rauen, Managing Director of the VDMA's Power Transmission Engineering Association.

"With the top issues of sustainability and climate protection and the broad topic of digitization, opportunities are opening up for promising products and technologies in ever new areas of application. Here we are committed to our members and want to continuously expand our network and service portfolio of the Power Transmission Engineering Association," commented Bernd Neugart.

Positive sales trend in power transmission engineering
Looking at the business situation, the power transmission engineering sector can report a positive development. In the period from January to July 2021, incoming orders were up 40 percent compared to the previous year, the forecast for the full year has therefore been raised to 12 percent sales growth.

Sales growth of 5 percent is currently expected for 2022 based on high order backlogs. There is hope to reach pre-Corona levels again by the end of 2022.

"The order situation is pleasing and it shows that the companies are successfully positioned in the market with their portfolio – power transmission engineering is up and running. The current supply bottlenecks and the shortage of skilled workers are a cause for concern, and both issues are key challenges for the coming months," comments Bernd Neugart.
