The European Power Industry will recover with a plus of 10%
The European Power Industry will recover with a plus of 10% and reach nearly the result of 2008 in the year 2011 - EUROTRANS Training Sessions will continue in 2012
On invitation of the Swiss Association of Gears and Transmission Elements within SWISSMEM, the European power transmission engineering industry held its Board meeting on 3rd November 2011 in Zurich, Switzerland.
Theo Maas, EUROTRANS President and CEO Mechanical Drives, Siemens AG, I DT MD, described the situation in 2011 for the European power transmission industry as a very positive development, even if the European situation is still volatile. Nevertheless some European power transmission companies have already reached the results of the very successful year 2008.
In 2011, the European power transmission industry (without bearings) will reach a plus of 10 % to more than 13 billion Euro. For 2012, the industry expects a plus of 3%. “The conditions in our branch are still good. The atmosphere is positive and we are sure, that the growth will continue”.
Theo Mass: “The European power transmission industry is still competitive to Asia and the USA because we have well educated people and great organized production processes.
EUROTRANS – Specialized training on gear design and engineering halfway and successful so far
September, 2011 - After the success of the Eurotrans Gear Training in 2010, EUROTRANS, the European Committee for Power Transmission Engineering, organized the second edition of this specialized training on gear design and engineering in 2011. The first two training sessions are just completed successfully with 16 participants for week 1 and 13 participants for week 2. Weeks 3 and 4 of the training are still open and will take place in October and December.
Although the power transmission engineering industry is an important industry branch, dedicated programmes on gears are rare on university level.
Therefore, EUROTRANS developed an extensive modular Gear Training in collaboration with some top gear trainers covering all aspects from geometry and design over production to quality control and failure analysis. Addressing a European audience, this residential training is organized in several locations in close connection with famous gear laboratories.
- Week 3: Quality and failure with Design Unit (Newcastle, UK), 10 – 14 October 2011 – registrations are still open !
- Week 4: Advanced Gear Design (To be decided) - registrations still open
Please find the detailed programme for each week and the subscription form on the EUROTANS website. The early bird deadline for week 3 is extended to September 23rd.
Pressrelease
Please register soon, still some places available for week 3.

Frankfurt, 9th May 2011; the global power transmission engineering industry met on invitation of EUROTRANS for its 1. Global Drive Technology Meeting on 3rd April 2011 in Hanover, one day before the opening of the successful Hannover Show 2011. 100 managers from 11 countries met to discuss the actual economic and technical situation of the global power transmission industry. One part of the meeting was also the Annual Meeting of EUROTRANS, the European sector committee of power transmission.
Main items were the innovation forces of China and the possibilities of the renewable energy market for our branch.
The EUROPEAN Power Transmission Industry expected a growth of 10% in 2011.
1. International Drive Technology Meeting - a great success!
The 1. International Drive Technology Meeting held on the 3rd April in Hanover was a great success. 100 participants from 11 countries enjoy this first global drive technology meeting. Managers from the leading power transmission companies of te world attend this meeting, one day befor the opening of the successfull Hanover Fair 2011.
The paticipants gave a positive feedback and it was decided to continue this networking platform in Hanover 2013.
"1. International Drive Technology Meeting" - Annual Meeting 2011 and 11th World Gear Summit
The next EUROTRANS Annual Meeting will be held together with the 11th World Gear Summit Meeting on 3rd April 2011 in Hanover on occasion of the Hanover Fair.
The modern power transmission industry is one of the key industries of the international mechanical engineering industry. Often our products and technology are the key innovations for future developments and solutions, for example the development of the windpower industry or modern mobility solutions. It is necessary that in a global world we develop a networking possibility for managers who are involved in the value chain of power transmission.
That was the reason to establish this “1. International Drive Technology Meeting” during the Hanover Fair 2011.
We are convinced that we could create a value for our industry to combine the Annual EUROTRANS Meeting together with the 11thWorld Gear Summit and bring together our international branch for a nice networking event.
We will have some short presentations about the situation in our important markets and will discuss this in a friendly atmosphere. Also we will invite some guest speakers to get a different view on our daily business:
Prof. Dr. Markus Taube
Chair of East Asian Economic Studies / China
University of Duisburg, Essen
“Innovation in China: Cooperation - Copy - Competition”
Dinner speaker:
Matthias Schubert,
CTO, executive board member, REpower Systems AG
“Renewable energy market“
The target is to establish a global power transmission community to inform and create value in case of markets and technology of our industry.
We wish you an your team a Merry Christmas and a sucessfull start in 2011.
Yours sincerely,
Theo Maas Dirk Decker
